Apprenticeship Specialist in Timber Industry CFC EFZ (m|f|d)
The training of wood industry specialists takes account of the changed requirements in the wood industry. The new training places greater emphasis on integrating the further processing of sawn timber by gluing and planing, teaching plant technology and IT topics and direct customer contact.
Apprenticeship description
Wood industry specialists operate and maintain state-of-the-art cutting and conveyor systems. They use these to process, dry and store the round timber delivered from the forest. They use it to produce boards, square timber and slats. As a wood industry specialist, you calculate quantities, yields, machine hours and prices. You also advise customers on the selection of sawn timber.
Development opportunities
- Work in a sawmill and planing mill as a highly qualified wood industry specialist with a federal certificate of proficiency.
- Specialisation with courses from technical and vocational schools, industry associations, and the Bern University of Applied Sciences for Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering.
- Follow-up training to become a wood specialist with a federal certificate of proficiency.
- With vocational baccalaureate during or after basic training: further training as a certified technician with a specialisation in the wood industry at a higher technical college.
- With vocational baccalaureate during or after basic training: Bachelor of Science (FH) in wood technology at a university of applied sciences.
